TYPE: HYPOTHETICAL IPHONE APP - UX COURSE PROJECT
METHODS: USER INTERVIEWS, COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS, GAME DESIGN, STRATEGY
Stair Wars is an app concept that came out of the final client project I had at General Assembly. The client had two main goals in mind: to motivate people to be more active, and to increase foot traffic to local businesses. Their current app, WalkTo, had users taking photos of local deals, such as sandwich board signs on the street, and posting them for other users to see and walk to those local businesses. They had us research and experiment with several ideas and concepts to find what would motivate users to use the app.
Towards the end of the project, I had a brainstorm of the Stair Wars app while working on an alternate B-concept. The original B-concept motivated users to be more physically active by using the stairs with the goal of climbing the equivalent of world monuments and buildings (such as the Eiffel Tower), and collecting virtual trophies and badges.
I discovered this app was did not have the personal or community connection to it and would not be sustainable over time. This led me to a bigger competition type app, where users would have different levels of competition for their activity. This would include competing with themselves for personal glory, their friends and coworkers for victory over the buildings they frequent, and their community as a whole in a battle good vs. evil using activity to dominate their territory. With less than a week left in my course, I was not able to fully develop this idea; however, I am very passionate about this concept and plan to continue researching and ideating in hopes to complete a full prototype.

And yes, I am changing it from the Star Wars theme, but haven't planned it out yet.
